Training

Q.  What does thinking have in common with playing golf,
chess or the violin?
A.  They are all skills that can improve with the right training.

Skilled performance can be enhanced by:
  • having a sound theoretical framework
  • knowledge of relevant techniques
  • conscious, deliberate practice.
Courses are designed to:
  • raise awareness of the nature of complex evaluative tasks, of what it takes to do them well, and of pitfalls to beware
  • introduce techniques that clarify tasks so we can focus where it counts most
  • build skill through deliberate practice in using these techniques
  • develop good mental habits - training the right intuitions, so that good judgments can be made even under time pressure.
The precise content is tailored to your organisation in order to ensure the training is relevant and fits your people, your objectives and your timeframe.  Typically, shorter courses enhance participants' awareness of thinking processes; longer courses build skill.

All courses are highly interactive and emphasise 'learning by doing' in a friendly atmosphere where participants feel comfortable to experiment with new techniques and learn from mistakes.  Although demanding, the training is engaging and participants regularly rate it very highly, finding it both worthwhile and enjoyable.
